How often / frequently does JOYN release updates?

JOYN releases updates approximately every month.

Types of Releases

  • Releases can be as follows:

    • Web only

    • Mobile app only

    • Both web and mobile app (for features that require both)

  • Releases are seamless and do not require any special planning except in cases of existing feature modifications (more details below)

  • The Mobile app can be updated automatically if your phone settings are set to automatically update apps from the app store.

    • NOTE: For the mobile app, it is generally good practice to perform a “Clear Data” after updating the app

What if a release modifies an existing feature?

  • If a release modifies an existing feature, JOYN will provide weekly communications for 4 weeks prior to the release with instructions on how to handle the change management.

  • This will include

    • date of deployment to web cloud (if applicable)

    • date of deployment of mobile app (if applicable)

      • Risks or issues that could occur if mobile app is not updated on time for field users

      • NOTE: Mobile app will always be made available on app stores

How can I try out new features in a safe manner without disrupting my live production setup?

  • You may try out new features in a live production environment by creating a dummy Field with dummy areas and assets along with dummy teams/task types. This will allow you to try things out in live production without impacting your standard configuration.

What if I have a stage environment?

  • If you have purchased a separate stage environment as part of your contract - you have the ability to try out the new features on stage before trying them out in production.

  • Note that unlike traditional on premise or custom software where a lower environment is often used for testing and approving features - this is not the case in a Cloud based SaaS product. All quality assurance occurs on our internal JOYN environments before releasing the code to customer environments.

  • The customer’s stage environment primarily serves the following purposes:

    • to test API integrations separately from the production environment

    • try out features on production level code without disrupting the production environment.

Can I choose not to accept a release?

  • JOYN is a cloud based SaaS platform which means that all customers are pushed all updates at the same time and no customer has a custom code base.

  • The benefits of this are that all customers can benefit from all feature requests.

  • However - this also means that there is no option to bypass or not accept a release.
